Existential Change Coming - Porkulis

Dubbed Porkulis by some, the Congress is working on an $800+ Billion so-called stimulus bill. It is nothing of the sort. It is so loaded with Pork and Payoffs to Liberal Special Interest groups that it is criminal. Some of the goodies:

  • $650 million to help Americans upgrade to digital cable
  • $44 million to repair Department of Agriculture in Washington, D.C.
  • $276 million to upgrade information technology at the State Department.
  • $3.1 billion to fund “infrastructure projects” on federal land,
  • $600 million for NASA, including $400 million for projects such as “satellite sensors that measure solar radiation critical to understanding climate change. Maybe they will finally be able to figure out that the sun does, in fact, have an impact on the climate. No, probably not
  • $1.9 billion for the Department of Energy for “basic research into the physical sciences,” including nuclear physics and fusion energy. I suspect this will be taken out because it has the word nuclear in it. The enviro-nazis must have missed this when the edited the bill.
  • $209 million for maintenance work at the federal Agricultural Research Service’s research facilities across the country.
  • $400 million in repairs to various “national treasures,” including $50 million to make up for a lack of philanthropic support for the arts. Hey, maybe if you lowered taxes on rich people - you would not have a 'lack of philanthropic support' - ever think of THAT? No, probably not.
  • $850 million for “wildland fire management,” including “wood to energy” projects. (Isn't that a lot like a campfire or wood-stove?.
  • $400 million for “habitat restoration” projects to be doled out by the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration. (enviro-nazi stuff)
  • $2.7 billion for “rural water and waste disposal” (also known as sewers)
  • $2 billion to provide day care services to 300,000 additional low-income children, ostensibly while their parents are at work. Come on, this $6,600 per child for child care. I wonder how many days of childcare the feds can provide for 6 grand?
  • $1.2 billion to create an estimated 1 million summer jobs for young people. Probably helping organize the re-elect Obama campaign
  • $2.5 billion to upgrade government-owned housing projects with new insulation, windows, and furnaces.
  • $6.2 billion to weatherize the homes of low-income people to make them more energy efficient.
  • $2.4 billion for projects demonstrating carbon-capture technology. Thats right, lets spend BILLIONS to pull Carbon Dioxide out of the air. You know - the same carbon dioxide the is not causing global warming climate change.
  • $600 million to “prepare our country for universal health care” by training more doctors, dentists, and nurses. Oh goody - let's start preparing to do something socialist
  • $1.5 billion to build new “Community Health Centers.” (socialized medical centers)
  • $20 billion to provide “nutrition assistance” for middle-income families. Food Stamps for the middle class
  • $5.2 billion for 'community building and re-development". This is money that ACORN will have DIRECT access to. Can you say payola?

Looking back in history, one learns that huge government spending does NOT stimulate the economy. Despite this efforts, FDR only managed to extend the depression of the 1930's for an un-needed decade. WWII is what finally got us out of the depression. Japan tried on four different occasions to get out of the mess they created with their own version of a real-estate and credit meltdown. The result? Their economy moved sideways for over a decade.

The only three actions the congress needs to take at this point:

  • Make sure that any money provided to the banks is used for lending. Prevent them from stockpiling it, buying other banks with it, giving bonuses with it, or redecorating their headquarters with it.
  • Increase and make permanent the Bush tax cuts
  • Get out of the way

Not as flashy as the Porkulis approach, but infinitely more affordable and effective. The American spirit, the American business, the American entrepreneur will do the rest. We are a nation of success. If the government will just keep their damned hands off (like they didn't when they CREATED the credit crisis) we will be fine.

If this bill is allowed in it's current form, you are witnessing an existential threat to what is left of free-market capitalism in this country. What will remain will be a socialist framework, bolstered by Global-Warming BS, that will serve to allow Washington to allow near Soviet level control over the economy. Think that is overstated? Washington will own control-level stakes in most major banks; they will yield control over industry via the carbon cap-and-trade scam; they will set design and production strategy for any company that they 'bailed out'. Obama is already talking about forcing companies to make electric cars. What the hell ever happened to the free-market?

Maybe this is what all the drones that voted for the Messiah wanted - but it sure as hell is not the America I want to live in.

What is it with Democrats not paying their freaking taxes?

Folks - what the hell is going on in Washington with the Democrats? Seems every week we are being treated to a new story of a nominee of the Messiah who can't seem to pay their taxes.

Charlie Rangel - a senior member of the house committee that writes TAX LAW. He is in trouble because he failed to declare income and pay taxes on a rental house he owns in the Dominican Republic (everyone does, right?). His excuse? He 'was not aware' that he was getting income from this property. Really? He wasn't aware? Please.

Next we have Tim Geithner. He had a tough time in his confirmation hearing. Why? Well, seems he failed to pay taxes while he was an independent contractor working for the IMF. Now, he originally failed to pay taxes for 4 years, 2001-2004. The IRS had already caught the fact that he skipped 2003 and 2004 - he paid those taxes in 2006. He waited until just before his confirmation hearing in January to pay his 2001 and 2002 taxes, even though he had to know in 2006 that he owed them. So, if he had not been nominated for the Secretary of the Treasury (you know, the guys that run the I.R freaking S) he would have NEVER paid those taxes. Nice. Oh, and his excuse for the trouble to begin with? He did not understand the questions while running Turbo Tax to do his taxes!! The boss of the IRS could not understand Turbo Tax? This is the guy giving the Savior advice on how to fix the economy. I hope the questions about the economy are simpler than the Turbo Tax questions!

Last we have the quite distasteful Tom Daschle. He used to be the Democratic leader of the Senate before he got kicked out of the Senate by the voters of his state. Sadly, he was replaced by the ever-contemptable Harry Reid. Anyway, Mr. Dashcle is up for the job of Secretary of Health and Human Services. His problem? Well, for years, someone gave him (for free) the use of a car and driver. Now, given the general driving records of the Washington politicians (a couple of Kennedys come to mind) this is not such a bad idea. The problem is that, according to state law, Daschle was required to report this as income. Of course, he did not. Now, five months ago, probably on info that he was in line for a job with the Messiah, he had his accountant investigate the implications of this free car and driver. Clearly, he knew he had been screwing the system and decided to come clean before he got nominated. But, he did so ONLY BECAUSE of the nomination.

So, what can we conclude from the actions of these good for nothing turd-merchants?

  • They do not want to live in the world that they have created for you
  • They think that they are above the laws that they wrote for you
  • They will only come clean when either a) they get busted, or b) prior to a high profile event where their CRIMES would be exposed.
  • They get special treatment, because none of them were prosecuted

This people are vermin. They are a disgrace to this country, the constitution, and they bring shame on the rest of us.

Having Democrats get caught just shows their hypocrisy even more brightly. They are always going on about 'playing by the rules' (with the implication that Republicans don't), and how they are for the 'little guy' (the little guy can't get all his penalties waved like ole Charlie Rangel), and how everyone must pay their 'fair share' (I guess for them, their fair share is ZERO).

But hey, this country elected the clown that is appointing these rodents - hope you are happy now, chumps Is this the change we can believe in?

The reach of the Federal Government - where does it stop?

I will blog soon about the impending DOOM of the mis-named, pork filled, Liberal Socialist's wet dream known as the Stimulus Bill. But for today, I want to dwell on just one more example of the WAY overreaching Federal government.

Today's example involves the endless regulatory appetite of the Fed. They exert their power over us in almost unimaginable ways. Taken from a news story. Headline - Nearly 100 children killed in 2007 due to backovers. This means that they were run over in the driveway by (probably) their parents.

Now, lest you think me heartless - this is, indeed, a tragic thing. My heart goes out to the families - and especially the poor person who actually did the running over.

Having said that, what does the rest of the story say? The the Senate was proposing a bill to require more mirrors, or sensors, or backup cameras to combat this problem. Now, it is not that I don't want fewer dead kids - but seriously. A federal law mandating even MORE safety equipment. In case no one noticed, the car companies are practically bankrupt now. Adding more regs to them does not seem to be helping. How about a public-service announcement instead? We could get all of the idiot Hollywood types to do a remake of that vapid, sacchirine, meaningless I Pledge video. I pledge to smile more? Good Grief. (Just curious, where the hell were the pledgers the last 8 years?)

They could make a video 'I pledge to check behind my car so as not to back over my adopted Ethiopian child with AIDS.' Heart rending, don't you think?

I looked up some other 'common' causes of death here. Not that I think 100 out of a population of 300+ million can be characterized as 'common'.

-Fall involving bed, chair, other furniture 650 deaths
Solution - Federally mandated bed safety chains
-Fall from out of or through building or structure 506
Solution - Federal ban on windows on buildings
-Drowning in bath-tub 341
Solution - Ban on bathtubs (or limit to 1 inch water)
-Accidental suffocation and strangulation in bed 327
Oops - that cancels the safety bed-chain idea. Damn
-Ignition or melting of clothing and apparel 99
Solution - ok, I bet you guess that one!

These all kill at least as many people than the backover problem. And the solutions suggested are clearly ridiculous. But this is how the legislature is thinking - 'See a problem - write a law'. Like I said, do an advertising campaign if you are really concerned. You cannot legislate away every threat to every person.

Remember folks - this is the government trying to reach out and control EVERYTHING around you... Make a fuss - do not go quietly into the dark night.

This is what happens when you go soft on evil

Since their release from Guantanamo, two fine, peace-loving Muslims (you know the ones we are always hearing about) are in the news again.

Abu Sufyan al-Azdi al-Shahri and Abu al-Hareth Muhammad al-Oufi

have surfaced in an in video posted on a jihadist website. I will not post a link to the site - as I do not want these rodents to get anymore traffic.

And in case you think this might be a singular incident: The Defense Department has said as many as 61 former Guantanamo detainees -- about 11 percent of 520 detainees transferred from the detention center and released -- are believed to have returned to the fight.

So what does this mean? Well, The Messiah has just announced his intention to close Club Gitmo with a year. Awesome! Problem: what is does he plan on doing with the vermin housed there? Some choices:

  • Kill them all now. Effective, but probably lacking in the global popularity he craves. I did not say it was a bad choice.
  • Let them go and ship them to Iran - so some other country that would take them. This is certainly quick - but even the Messiah would have trouble selling that at home
  • Ship them to the US for criminal prosecution. This is problematic. No one has ever granted enemy combatants (In other words - people who were trying to KILL US soldiers-like my son-in-law currently on active duty) civilian criminal trials before.) civilian criminal trials before. The civilian rules of evidence, availability of witnesses, etc. would just cause un-solvable problems in these cases.
  • Set up special Military tribunals. We are doing that. Trouble is, if you get these guys onto US soil, the Federal Courts will probably assert jurisdiction.
  • Ship them off to some world court. Yah - since when do we farm out dealing with our enemies.

So, oh great Messiah - what say you? It is easy to yap about closing Gitmo from the campaign trail. What are you going to do about the real world bad-guys that are housed there? And how will you do so without further endangering us?

We await your answer, please sir, do not fail us.

A bit of good news on the 2nd amendment front

In a startling announcement, Governor Paterson of New York appointed Democratic U.S. Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand to fill New York's Senate seat vacated by Hillary.

The reason that this is startling? Gillibrand has a 100% voting record in agreement with NRA positions!! Most excellent. Of course, you are getting the expected negative reaction from within the Democratic party. They feel betrayed. Because guns are one of a long list of litmus tests for the libs. Fail one, and you are disqualified in their eyes.

They make the vacuous argument: If you are not anti-gun 100%, you are not interested in reducing 'gun violence'. They make no distinction between lawful gun owners and thugs with guns. They SAY they do, but all of their proposed 'solutions' will only impact lawful gun owners.

Ms. Gillibrand is 42, making here the youngest Senator. And, she is a bit of a babe. Actually, she is just a babe, period.

She is now one of 17 women in the Senate. In an odd twist of the law, she must run for the Senate office in 2 years. Then again 2 years later. The angry left is already promising a primary challenge to unseat her. So much for the 'big tent' of the Democratic party. This in one Democratic who can expect a contribution from me in 2010. (At least in the primary! :-) )

In a rare move - GOOD for you Governor Paterson!!!

At least people are understanding ONE thing - Global Warming not a priority for people

In a glimmer of good news concerning opinion out there, PEW published a recent poll. In the poll, Global Warming (which, as we know, is NOT man's doing) ranked LAST in priority for 2009!

This is GOOD news. Maybe, (ok - a big maybe) the morons in Washington see this. Hopefully, they will not completely crush our economy for decades to come with their asinine Carbon taxes and Cap and Trade nonsense.

But, giving the impotence and lack of resolve of the Republicans that are left in Washington, combined with the Socialism instincts of the Dems -- Hope is what we have been reduced to for the moment.

Folks, hope is not a strategy. We must continue to combine 'hope' with action. In particular, continuing to educate your friends, family, and co-workers, to the dangers of the socialist direction we are moving in. People, if shown clearly what is happening, are capable of understanding and changing their minds. If we do that, it CAN bear fruit.

Now, the results of a poll should not be confused with real progress. But, it IS an indication that people out there are capable of changing their minds. The next step, the same change in Washington.

Viva la resistance!

Obama to be the President of all the people - not so much

The so-called Freedom of Choice Act is on its way to being made into law. The Messiah has often promised to sign this bill.

What exactly will this law do?

It will invalidate the following items:

  • Any state's current prohibition on state funding of abortion (i.e making state taxpayers pay for abortion)
  • Any law in any city or state barring abortions in government-operated hospitals
  • Any laws requiring parental notification before an abortion can be performed on a minor daughter
  • Any laws requiring parental consent before an abortion can be performed on a minor daughter.
  • Any law requiring judical consent before an abortion can be performed on a minor daughter without the parents knowledge
  • Any laws designed to assure that women are making an informed choice prior to getting an abortion. (These were passed to counter abortion providers using shady marketing practices)
  • Any and all "Conscience" laws, allowing doctors, nurses, or other state-licensed professionals, and hospitals or other health-care providers, to decline to provide or pay for abortions.
  • This last provision has caused the Catholic Church to state they will close hospitals before the will comply with this law.
  • It will also remove the ban on Federally funded abortions. So, free abortions for everyone!

Now, I do not care if you are pro-life or pro-choice. This kind of blatant Federal abuse of power, and the crushing of states rights, should bother you.

Abortion is a very sensitive subject. Most people have very mixed feelings about it. Their views usually show some kind of balance between the rights of the woman and feeling uncomfortable, at some level, with the idea of abortion. People also can have a mixture of views when it comes to abortion and minors. Minors, who cannot get an aspirin from the nurse at school without parental approval, can't go on a field trip with parental approval, but may be faced with a pregnancy.

So, here is what we have: The states, using the best collective judgement concerning their citizens views, have passed various laws regarding abortion. Some to put guidelines around abortion for minors. Some to protect health care workers from being forced to participate in a procedure they find at odds with their religion. Some to avoid tax payers from having to fund a procedure that the majority objects to. These laws have all been judged by the courts to not conflict with Roe v. Wade.

Now, the Fed comes along and says, 'Sorry states - we are wiping out all of YOUR laws, and replacing them with our own'. For example: We think it is ok for us to tell you that you can't require your 15 year old girls to consult anyone (not a parent or a judge) before she gets an abortion. (Of course, we aren't making any provisions for who will take care of her, or pay her medical bills, regarding any post-abortion complication). And we think that you, the states and your citizens, should just be 'otay' with this.

Folks - states right are dead and getting deader. The Federal politicians are poking their thumb in our eyes and telling us we have no right to run our states as we see fit. I am not even sure why we have state government anymore. The bastards in Washington are getting ready to Federalize every damned thing.

James Madison, the father of our Constitution, explained, "The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the federal government are few and defined. Those which are to remain in the state governments are numerous and indefinite."

Yah - James,,,, sorry. But those 'few and defined' powers? yah.. we have been meaning to talk to you about that. In the 'modern' world - not so much

As we await the Coronation Ascension Beatification Inauguration of Barack Hussein Obama, several thoughts have found their way into my brain.

  • How funny it is that, the same people that bitched about the $40 million spent on Bush's last Inauguration have NO problem with the $170 million being spent this time around. I guess when a Deity is involved, cost is no object.
  • How the country's current economic problems are NO barrier to this Inaugural orgy of spending. I guess the problems on 'main street' are not so visible once you have power
  • How this event is catering to the rich - and screwing the common man.

In addition to the TEN balls BHO is expected to attend, this article details many of the hypocritical excesses that will be on display.

  • Special heated seating for the rich guys
  • Special airport procedures for all of the private jets. (What the hell happened to Carbon Footprints?)
  • The Ritz-Carlton's $50,000 package for four nights. (Including an $8,000 bauble to wear to the ball.

This started at the concert at the Lincoln Memorial, the so-called 'We are the one' event. Rich guys in a heated tent, not-so-rich in the cold. So, it was the 'We are the one - but you are not' concert.

Now, this is all to be expected. Being rich SHOULD have it's perks. You give big money to a candidate, you expect something come celebration time.

The thing that is so galling? The Liberals are so freaking self-righteous. They try to act like they are 'different'. That class and wealth don't matter. That they are the party of the 'working family', of the common man. Oh, BS. They are spending more than 4 times what Bush spent - and they are doing it in the middle of a financial turmoil that their own policies from the Clinton era CREATED.

The taxpayer who is footing the bill for this? The Hell with them.... Let them eat cake.

The pigs in Animal Farm have nothing on these guys. Like the book said 'All animals are equal, some animals are more equal than others'. George Orwell, call your office.

Get ready for more of this anti-gun crap

This is probably not going to amount to anything - but, who knows. There is a bill pending in the House, HR 45. Among some provisions of this wet-dream of the anti-gunners:

  • Require licensing for anybody that owns a gun.

  • Would require photographs and a thumbprint

  • Would require you to give an authorization to release to the Attorney General any mental health records pertaining to the applicant. (Can you say Big Brother?)

  • Makes it so all renewals go through the AG of the USA. No more local sheriff's office. (Oh good, ANOTHER Federal agency...think IRS)

  • Would require passage of a test that covers:

    ----- The safe storage of firearms, particularly in the vicinity of persons who have not attained 18 years of age;

    ----- The safe handling of firearms;

    ----- The use of firearms in the home and the risks associated with such use;

----- The legal responsibilities of firearms owners, including Federal, State, and local laws relating to requirements for the possession and storage of firearms, and relating to reporting requirements with respect to firearms

The licensing is very toxic. It is the first, necessary, step to any future gun confiscation. Before you think I am being either paranoid or conspiratorial - gun confiscation happened in Australia just recently. So, it CAN happen here.

Access to ANY mental health records? Current laws saw you can't own a gun if you have ever been put in a mental facility by court order. With this new law, if you have ever seen a 'therapist' - you could be excluded. And the decision would be by some Washington pencil-neck.

And having to renew 'permission' to continue owning a gun? You have to deal with the Federal Government? One of the reasons we own guns is to keep the federal government in check.

That Attorney General enforcing this will be the rabidly anti-gun Eric Holder. Like I said, one would hope the Dems remember that this is still a pro-gun country. But, we can't count on it. These guys are back in full control now. They are likely to continue to pander to every one of their kook fringe supporters.

Is that the sound of the civilian militia Locking and Loading? If not, it soon could be.

Reaching to control our economy - and not is a good way

A couple of the Messiah's recent appointments (or maneuverings), when taken together, spell even more trouble coming for the US economy. And frankly, these moves look to be designed to further BHO's socialist ideals. If you don't think he has socialist ideals, you have not been paying attention.

For now, I will limit the discussion to Henry Waxman and Ken Salazar.

First, the odious Mr. Henry Waxman. Seen here is recent photo, along with Brad Pitt. (There have been consistent rumors that the two were separated at birth. I will let the thoughtful reader decide for themselves). As a side note, it appears that the congress's dental plan is not all that good after all. (Oh my, how petty!) Why is Pitt pictured here? Absolutely no reason other than I like poking fun at Henry.

Mr. Waxman is a most unpleasant little man. Called a 'Pillar of Hate America Left' by some, he has had associations with, and lent support to, enemies of America. This included helping funnel $600,000 of cash and weapons to our enemies in Fallujah.

He has spent the bulk his career 'investigating' all kinds of people and activities. He never discovers anything, but relishes in the limelight that comes with being the grand inquisitor. He investigated based purely on political differences, trying to criminalize policies disagreements. Beyond that, he has pissed away millions of our dollars, as well as endlessly harassed political opponents as well as innocent citizens.

Mr. Waxman has nearly a spotless 100% voting record on (mis-guided) 'environmental' issues and is a 'global warming' zealot.

Mr. Salazar, currently a Senator from Colorado, is a little more appealing (or less hideous - depending on your perspective). While he does vote nearly 100% with the wacko environmentalist movement, some of his other votes do, in fact, show a little more moderate temperament. The fact that Salazar my be even dumber than Jay Rockefeller or Patty Murray (though nowhere as stupid as Cynthia McKinney) does not bode well. He is probably too stupid to realize when he is being used as a pawn. Oh, to remind you who McKinney is

So why do Salazar and that ass-clown Waxman matter now, in particular.

Well, Waxman is going to be the the new chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee. John Dingell from Michigan was unseated by Mr. Waxman in a coup engineered by Speaker Pelosi (no doubt with the direction and support of the Messiah himself). Mr. Dingell, being from Michigan, tempered the left-ward shift of the committee by bringing the interests of the auto industry, in things such as CAFE standards, to the fore. You can forget that kind of moderation now. Mr. Waxman will be balls to the wall in implementing the Left's socialist agenda on 'man-made global warming' (a condition that does not exist).

Some will argue against the the characterization as socialist. Make no mistake - this is all about the Feds gaining even more CONTROL over business and the economy. THAT is socialist thinking. They are doing it using the fear created by the BS concept of man-made global warming.

How does Mr. Salazar figure into this? He will provide a second thrust in the attack to provide Dear Leader cover to muck around with 'Green' energy initiatives. We are getting ready to waste BILLIONS on government driven 'research' into so-called green technologies. These are an attempt to replace oil. Unless this green push includes nuclear power (it won't) the efforts will fail (and - they will)

Mr. Salazar said that he will 'consider' re-imposing the ban on drilling for our OWN oil off our OWN shores. When pressed, he said that 'some' areas are appropriate for drilling. But he had 'no idea' how much of the ban should be re-imposed.

Let me translate:

  • The term 'I will consider' the ban means - 'I will do this. I am not going to tell you that now - but consider it a done deal'.
  • The term 'some areas are appropriate for drilling' means: 'Any area in which we don't ban drilling will certainly not be economically viable for drilling.
  • The term 'I have no idea' how much of the ban to re-instate' means - We will re-instate so much of it that we will make damned sure no one can actually drill in the non-banned parts.

So, the net result of all of this nonsense?

  • Waxman will move to put in draconian 'green house gas' regulations
  • These regulations will cost American industry hundreds of BILLIONS
  • We will be less globally competitive as a result
  • They will not impact the climate
  • Our economy will be further damaged
  • We will re-imposed the destructive ban on drilling our own oil
  • Other countries will then drill that oil
  • The long-term effect - more dollars leaving the US.
  • Our economy will be further damaged.

Congratulations, America - you elected these morons.

Losing the secret vote in election to unionize a business

There is huge move afoot to enact a deliberately mis-named bill called the Employee Free Choice Act. It is anything but. Basically, it removes the requirement for a secret ballot in elections where a work force is deciding whether to have a union represent them.

The bill is the love child of big-labor. Union membership has been declining for years. The idea behind this bill: union organizers would only need to collect signed cards from a majority of workers, then POOF -- unionized. The chance for union intimidation in this process is HUGE. The union will know who has signed and who has refused.

The unions are trying to peddle the idea that the current, secret ballot, lets companies intimidate employees!! The logic behind that is something only a true Union thug could understand. You can read the union's lame attempt here.

We have thought that this was probably a slam dunk once the Messiah was in office. It was a high priority for the Democrats. But, according to this article, the Dems appear to be faltering on this one.

Seems several of the Dems (from Red States) are re-thinking. Plus the RINO Susan Collins as well as that worthless sack of skin Arlen Specter (R), are realizing that 80% of the population rejects the basis of this bill: the loss of the secret ballot. On a side note: we REALLY REALLY need a good primary opponent to knock off Specter. He is SO lame, and dis-loyal, and an embarrassment.

The biggest irony in all of this: it was the unions that pushed to get the secret ballot instituted in the first place. Back then, it was the companies that were intimidating workers. The secret vote eliminated the opportunity to single out individual workers. It fit the unions purpose back then.

Now, when it serves the unions purpose, the want to introduce intimidation (by THEM) back into the equation..... Write and call your Senators and tell them NO.

More evidence - Man Made Global warming is BS

In an article today points out something we have been saying on this blog since the beginning. Global climate change is NOT a mad made phenomenon, it is caused by variations in the suns energy output.

Sunspots are a decent proxy for the suns activity - the more sunspots, the more energy that the sun gives off. To see the latest sunspot activity (zero on Jan 1, 2009) you can click here. Ok, from the article:

  • When the sun is active, it's not uncommon to see sunspot numbers of 100 or more in a single month.

  • The first seven months (of 2008) averaged a sunspot count of only three and in August there were no sunspots at all — zero — something that has not occurred since 1913.

  • in the past 1,000 years, three previous such events — what are called the Dalton, Maunder and Sporer Minimums — have all led to rapid cooling. One was large enough to be called the Little Ice Age (1500-1750).

  • The Little Ice Age has been a problem for global warmers because it serves as a reminder of how the earth warms and cools naturally over time.

  • R. Timothy Patterson, professor of geology and director of the Ottawa-Carleton Geoscience Centre of Canada's Carleton University, says: "I and the first-class scientists I work with are consistently finding excellent correlations between the regular fluctuations of the sun and earthly climate. This is not surprising.

Not surprising that there is a correlation between the suns output and the earths temperature! Really. That's a shocker.

Folks, if you want to understand the temperature of your house in the winter, what do you do? Yah, you check the doors, windows, and insulation. But, you must not forget the FURNACE. These global warming alarmists are checking the insulation - but they ignore the FURNACE.

In their briefly popular song, the group They Might be Giants noted:

The sun is a mass of incandescent gas
A gigantic nuclear furnace
Where hydrogen is built into helium
At a temperature of millions of degrees
