This is what happens when you go soft on evil

Since their release from Guantanamo, two fine, peace-loving Muslims (you know the ones we are always hearing about) are in the news again.

Abu Sufyan al-Azdi al-Shahri and Abu al-Hareth Muhammad al-Oufi

have surfaced in an in video posted on a jihadist website. I will not post a link to the site - as I do not want these rodents to get anymore traffic.

And in case you think this might be a singular incident: The Defense Department has said as many as 61 former Guantanamo detainees -- about 11 percent of 520 detainees transferred from the detention center and released -- are believed to have returned to the fight.

So what does this mean? Well, The Messiah has just announced his intention to close Club Gitmo with a year. Awesome! Problem: what is does he plan on doing with the vermin housed there? Some choices:

  • Kill them all now. Effective, but probably lacking in the global popularity he craves. I did not say it was a bad choice.
  • Let them go and ship them to Iran - so some other country that would take them. This is certainly quick - but even the Messiah would have trouble selling that at home
  • Ship them to the US for criminal prosecution. This is problematic. No one has ever granted enemy combatants (In other words - people who were trying to KILL US soldiers-like my son-in-law currently on active duty) civilian criminal trials before.) civilian criminal trials before. The civilian rules of evidence, availability of witnesses, etc. would just cause un-solvable problems in these cases.
  • Set up special Military tribunals. We are doing that. Trouble is, if you get these guys onto US soil, the Federal Courts will probably assert jurisdiction.
  • Ship them off to some world court. Yah - since when do we farm out dealing with our enemies.

So, oh great Messiah - what say you? It is easy to yap about closing Gitmo from the campaign trail. What are you going to do about the real world bad-guys that are housed there? And how will you do so without further endangering us?

We await your answer, please sir, do not fail us.
