Obama to be the President of all the people - not so much

The so-called Freedom of Choice Act is on its way to being made into law. The Messiah has often promised to sign this bill.

What exactly will this law do?

It will invalidate the following items:

  • Any state's current prohibition on state funding of abortion (i.e making state taxpayers pay for abortion)
  • Any law in any city or state barring abortions in government-operated hospitals
  • Any laws requiring parental notification before an abortion can be performed on a minor daughter
  • Any laws requiring parental consent before an abortion can be performed on a minor daughter.
  • Any law requiring judical consent before an abortion can be performed on a minor daughter without the parents knowledge
  • Any laws designed to assure that women are making an informed choice prior to getting an abortion. (These were passed to counter abortion providers using shady marketing practices)
  • Any and all "Conscience" laws, allowing doctors, nurses, or other state-licensed professionals, and hospitals or other health-care providers, to decline to provide or pay for abortions.
  • This last provision has caused the Catholic Church to state they will close hospitals before the will comply with this law.
  • It will also remove the ban on Federally funded abortions. So, free abortions for everyone!

Now, I do not care if you are pro-life or pro-choice. This kind of blatant Federal abuse of power, and the crushing of states rights, should bother you.

Abortion is a very sensitive subject. Most people have very mixed feelings about it. Their views usually show some kind of balance between the rights of the woman and feeling uncomfortable, at some level, with the idea of abortion. People also can have a mixture of views when it comes to abortion and minors. Minors, who cannot get an aspirin from the nurse at school without parental approval, can't go on a field trip with parental approval, but may be faced with a pregnancy.

So, here is what we have: The states, using the best collective judgement concerning their citizens views, have passed various laws regarding abortion. Some to put guidelines around abortion for minors. Some to protect health care workers from being forced to participate in a procedure they find at odds with their religion. Some to avoid tax payers from having to fund a procedure that the majority objects to. These laws have all been judged by the courts to not conflict with Roe v. Wade.

Now, the Fed comes along and says, 'Sorry states - we are wiping out all of YOUR laws, and replacing them with our own'. For example: We think it is ok for us to tell you that you can't require your 15 year old girls to consult anyone (not a parent or a judge) before she gets an abortion. (Of course, we aren't making any provisions for who will take care of her, or pay her medical bills, regarding any post-abortion complication). And we think that you, the states and your citizens, should just be 'otay' with this.

Folks - states right are dead and getting deader. The Federal politicians are poking their thumb in our eyes and telling us we have no right to run our states as we see fit. I am not even sure why we have state government anymore. The bastards in Washington are getting ready to Federalize every damned thing.

James Madison, the father of our Constitution, explained, "The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the federal government are few and defined. Those which are to remain in the state governments are numerous and indefinite."

Yah - James,,,, sorry. But those 'few and defined' powers? yah.. we have been meaning to talk to you about that. In the 'modern' world - not so much
