- $650 million to help Americans upgrade to digital cable
- $44 million to repair Department of Agriculture in Washington, D.C.
- $276 million to upgrade information technology at the State Department.
- $3.1 billion to fund “infrastructure projects” on federal land,
- $600 million for NASA, including $400 million for projects such as “satellite sensors that measure solar radiation critical to understanding climate change. Maybe they will finally be able to figure out that the sun does, in fact, have an impact on the climate. No, probably not
- $1.9 billion for the Department of Energy for “basic research into the physical sciences,” including nuclear physics and fusion energy. I suspect this will be taken out because it has the word nuclear in it. The enviro-nazis must have missed this when the edited the bill.
- $209 million for maintenance work at the federal Agricultural Research Service’s research facilities across the country.
- $400 million in repairs to various “national treasures,” including $50 million to make up for a lack of philanthropic support for the arts. Hey, maybe if you lowered taxes on rich people - you would not have a 'lack of philanthropic support' - ever think of THAT? No, probably not.
- $850 million for “wildland fire management,” including “wood to energy” projects. (Isn't that a lot like a campfire or wood-stove?.
- $400 million for “habitat restoration” projects to be doled out by the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration. (enviro-nazi stuff)
- $2.7 billion for “rural water and waste disposal” (also known as sewers)
- $2 billion to provide day care services to 300,000 additional low-income children, ostensibly while their parents are at work. Come on, this $6,600 per child for child care. I wonder how many days of childcare the feds can provide for 6 grand?
- $1.2 billion to create an estimated 1 million summer jobs for young people. Probably helping organize the re-elect Obama campaign
- $2.5 billion to upgrade government-owned housing projects with new insulation, windows, and furnaces.
- $6.2 billion to weatherize the homes of low-income people to make them more energy efficient.
- $2.4 billion for projects demonstrating carbon-capture technology. Thats right, lets spend BILLIONS to pull Carbon Dioxide out of the air. You know - the same carbon dioxide the is not causing global
warmingclimate change. - $600 million to “prepare our country for universal health care” by training more doctors, dentists, and nurses. Oh goody - let's start preparing to do something socialist
- $1.5 billion to build new “Community Health Centers.” (socialized medical centers)
- $20 billion to provide “nutrition assistance” for middle-income families. Food Stamps for the middle class
- $5.2 billion for 'community building and re-development". This is money that ACORN will have DIRECT access to. Can you say payola?
Looking back in history, one learns that huge government spending does NOT stimulate the economy. Despite this efforts, FDR only managed to extend the depression of the 1930's for an un-needed decade. WWII is what finally got us out of the depression. Japan tried on four different occasions to get out of the mess they created with their own version of a real-estate and credit meltdown. The result? Their economy moved sideways for over a decade.
The only three actions the congress needs to take at this point:
- Make sure that any money provided to the banks is used for lending. Prevent them from stockpiling it, buying other banks with it, giving bonuses with it, or redecorating their headquarters with it.
- Increase and make permanent the Bush tax cuts
- Get out of the way
Not as flashy as the Porkulis approach, but infinitely more affordable and effective. The American spirit, the American business, the American entrepreneur will do the rest. We are a nation of success. If the government will just keep their damned hands off (like they didn't when they CREATED the credit crisis) we will be fine.
If this bill is allowed in it's current form, you are witnessing an existential threat to what is left of free-market capitalism in this country. What will remain will be a socialist framework, bolstered by Global-Warming BS, that will serve to allow Washington to allow near Soviet level control over the economy. Think that is overstated? Washington will own control-level stakes in most major banks; they will yield control over industry via the carbon cap-and-trade scam; they will set design and production strategy for any company that they 'bailed out'. Obama is already talking about forcing companies to make electric cars. What the hell ever happened to the free-market?
Maybe this is what all the drones that voted for the Messiah wanted - but it sure as hell is not the America I want to live in.

You left out one really big line item -- $4.85 BILLION for the military. That's right. Here we live in a nation where over 50% of every federal tax dollar is spent on "defense" (directly and indirectly) and Obama wants to give them even more money!
Hey, if we hadn't wasted $650 billion in Iraq, we wouldn't now need a $850 billion stimulus package.
Well, Mr. Taoist, let us remember one VERY important thing that liberals such as your self forget. The military is one of the FEW things that the Constitution actually gives the Federal Government authority to do. So, I would submit, it is the one item in the budget that actually belongs there. And, with the successful, peaceful elections and power structure now in place in Iraq, it seems money very well spent.
